Strata

Strata reads the Earth as a cross-section — the layered soils of the ground meeting the shifting weather of the sky, geology and atmosphere pressed into a single plane. Built in relief with texture paste, oil and pastel, charcoal and a range of mark-making tools, its blocks and seams invite the hand as much as the eye. The most intimate of the series, it rewards close, quiet looking.

An original, one-of-a-kind painting, signed by the artist.

Medium: Mixed media on box canvas — oil, pastel, texture paste and charcoal.
Dimensions: 20 × 16 in (depth 1.5 in).
